At Both Lighting USA, we’re all working DJs, and we use the same gear we sell—so we know all the tips & tricks to make your setup smoother!
Let’s talk SoundSwitch—should you go for the Control One or just use an Interface Cable?
💡 The Difference:
-
Control One: A dedicated hardware controller with built-in DMX output, giving you hands-on control of SoundSwitch. KEEP IN MIND, while it’s a hardware controller, it’s not “Standalone”. It still need to be plugged into a computer to run. It’s essentially a customized Midi controller.
-
Interface Cable: A simple USB to DMX interface cable that connects to your laptop with USB and to your Transmitter or directly into your fixtures with DMX.
🚀 You CAN fully use SoundSwitch with just the Interface Cable!
Dave doesn’t own a Control One but still gets the most out of SoundSwitch by mapping key functions to his DJ controller. When using a DDJ-1000, he mapped his most-used buttons like blackout and strobe to Deck 3 (since he never used it for music). With all 8 performance pads open, he could map Static Scenes, Strobe, Blackout, and other effects directly to his controller.
This saved money, eliminated extra gear, and kept his DJ furniture setup clean. If you don’t have space for a Control One, MIDI map your DJ controller for a budget-friendly & seamless SoundSwitch experience!
