What is Master / Slave?

What is Master / Slave?

Rick Weber |

Master/Slave mode is a simple but powerful feature that allows multiple identical lighting fixtures to sync together without needing a DMX controller. By setting one fixture as the "Master", you can control a whole group just by pointing a remote at a single unit—the others will automatically follow its commands. This is a great way to quickly set up synchronized lighting effects without needing DMX programming.

However, Master/Slave only works with the same model of fixture. If you’re mixing different types of lights and want them to work together in sync, you’ll need a DMX controller—but don’t worry, we’ll cover that in an upcoming email!

Fun Fact: The Chroma Cannons and IR-4’s actually use the same LED chip, which means they can run in Master/Slave mode together! However, the S4/S6 Uplights do not sync with the IR-4’s in Master/Slave mode, so keep that in mind when planning your setup.
